Low lying hills and foothills of the Brahmaputra Plains.
Inhabited mainly by 2 peoples. One Hindu, the other mainly Tribal Religion.


Sub-Regions of the Assam Hills Region

Dimaraji - Valley and Hills of the 100% Hindu, Dimasa - Kachari or "Hill Kachari" - people/kingdom.
The Dimasa were originally of the Plains, like all other Major Kachari denominations, but
when the Ahom conquered the Dimasa capital of Dimapur on the plains, the Dimasa moved up the hills to this region, and became called the "Hills Kachari"

Karbi Hills - of the Karbi tribe, 75% follow Tribal religion.
The Karbi tribe were originally in the Dimaraji Hills area, but with the come of the Dimasa, they shifted to these Hills. The Karbi tribe comprise about 30% of the population in the Karbi Hills Area.
Of the population of the Karbi Hills Area in the Karbi district of Assam state, 15% are Christian, with the rest Hindu or Tribal Religion.
Of the Population of the Karbi Hills in Meghalaya state and parts of Assam state to the North, about 50% are Christian and 50% Hindu or Tribal Religion.
