Journey to the West and Ramayan

Journey to the West and Ramayana

Sun Wukong – Hanuman
Similarly upbringing by guru of the Gods and mischief - while Hanuman is made to forget his powers – Sun Wukong is imprisoned with a mantra.
Sun Wukong has all imaginable “powers” and is also called an immortal like Hanuman.

Tang Sanzang the monk he is accompanying is Xuanzang who indeed traveled West and collected Buddhist scripture from India. Hanuman similarly accompanied Sri Rama.

Strirajya - one chapter in Journey to the west deals with a kingdom of only women
Strirajya with minor story is found in Ramayana, Mahabharat or Purana

In one story Sun Wukong protects the monk with a circle within which would be protected – similar as Lakshman creating a circle around the cottage for the protection of Sita.

Baijie the pig – might be inspired by Varaha avatar

Sha – might be inspired by Matsya avatar (Mat-sha)

Thus excluding Kurma avatar and Narasimha avatar – as tortoise are slow and a lion is too fierce and would clash with personality of Sun Wukong.
