Sikkim Himalaya - Region

Sikkim, including Darjeeling is ethnically and categorically part of Nepal Region.
Nepali Peoples/Nepal Region extends till Bhutan, where they were 15-30% of the population before being expelled from that country in 1980s, for simply being: Nepali and Hindu.
Sikkim was the buffer area, and though a tiny Tibetan Buddhist kingdom like Bhutan, has a Nepali majority Population. During the British era the Nepal kingdom invaded Sikkim, followed closely by the British taking Sikkim from Nepal and finally reinstating the Sikkim King in the North Part, while keeping Darjeeling - the South Part, with both parts eventually being part of India.

Hindu - 70% - Mostly Nepali peoples
Tibetan Buddhist 20% - mostly in the North, near the Greater Himalaya.
